Here’s one of my favorite, lesser-known classic cocktails, the Gin & It. A combination of gin and sweet vermouth (often called Italian vermouth, with dry vermouth being French), the Gin & It was also known as a Sweet Martini. Some like it on the rocks, some served up. I happen to think it's a particularly nice cocktail before dinner. A little sweet, a little bitter, and a whole lotta gin.

Gin & It

2 oz gin
2 oz sweet vermouth
1 dash Angostura bitters
1 orange twist

Pour ingredients over ice in a mixing glass and stir.

Strain into a coupe and serve with an orange twist garnish.
